Underwater Treasures Series II

Lavinia’s Underwater Treasures Series II embarks on a transformative and introspective journey into the emotional and spiritual depths of the human experience.

Although this collection is still in its early stages, with only the painting Dive completed, the concept for the series is firmly in place and will develop over the next few years. Each painting in the series will delve deeper into themes of vulnerability, discovery, and personal growth, encouraging viewers to “Open Your Heart” and explore the rich emotional landscapes within themselves.

Rooted in metaphor, the series uses the ocean as a symbol for the subconscious and the complexities of emotions, where the act of diving underwater mirrors the inward journey of self-reflection. Each painting will explore different facets of this journey, guiding viewers through layers of their own emotional and spiritual experiences—contemplating concepts like safety and vulnerability, loneliness and solitude, growth and transformation, and the balance between resistance and acceptance.

The philosophical aspect of the series is expressed through the exploration of personal growth, where each dive represents a decision to leave behind the surface and plunge into the unknown. Psychologically, it reflects the courage required to confront fears and uncertainties in search of deeper truths. Spiritually, the series celebrates the beauty of vulnerability as a strength, encouraging viewers to open their hearts to the complexities of life and connection with others.

In Dive, Lavinia invites the viewer on a profound journey of self-exploration, where the act of diving becomes a metaphor for delving into the depths of the soul. The painting serves as an initiation into this journey—a movement from the surface to the unseen realms of the subconscious. The deep blues and spiraling currents of water reflect the complexity and mystery of the emotional world, while the glowing light that filters through the water speaks to moments of clarity and insight, offering glimpses of understanding amidst the unknown.

The spiraling forms, created through Lavinia’s meticulous Circleism technique, mirror the inward spiral of self-reflection. Each swirl is a step deeper into the layers of the self, suggesting that to truly discover, one must be vulnerable, open, and willing to explore the darkness as well as the light. The coral and marine life that populate the scene symbolize the richness of the inner world, where growth and transformation often emerge from places that once seemed inhospitable or unknown.

The title Dive also reflects the decision to embark on this personal exploration, to leave behind the comfort of the surface and dive into the emotional depths. It speaks of bravery—the courage to confront one’s fears, vulnerabilities, and challenges in the search for truth. The way the light breaks through the water and illuminates the ocean floor represents those rare moments of clarity that come when one is willing to embrace both the beauty and complexity of life’s emotional landscape.

The painting symbolizes the emotional and spiritual journey of diving inward—an exploration of solitude, growth, acceptance, and self-reflection. It encourages the viewer to confront their own emotional depths, to navigate through the currents of fear and resistance, and ultimately, to find moments of light, connection, and truth.
